Cherokees Helping Cherokees

Cherokee Nation At-Large Mutual Assistance, Inc. is a charitable organization dedicated to honoring and preserving Cherokee sovereignty, culture, and values. We support At-Large citizens by providing meaningful assistance for those facing financial hardships and unique challenges.

Why We Exist
Over 320,000 Cherokee Nation citizens live at-large—outside the reservation and often without access to tribal services. Federal funding and many tribal programs do not serve citizens living off-reservation. About 12% of at-large tribal citizens report financial hardship.
What We Do
We provide one-time emergency assistance to Cherokee Nation citizens living at-large who face urgent hardship. Approved applicants may receive up to $1600 for needs like medical expenses, travel, burial costs, or other unforeseen costs. This support is available once per household per year and does not cover ongoing/recurring bills or legal fees.
Our Story
Cherokee Nation At-Large Mutual Assistance was founded in 2023 to serve citizens who live beyond the reservation. We are guided by the Cherokee principle of di-ga-da- tse-li-i—“we belong to one another”—and operate as a volunteer-run, citizen-led nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status.
